Owner/Instructor (Piano, Voice, Ukulele)
Regina Noel Downing is the owner and instructor of the Regina Noel Music Studio in Decorah, Iowa. She teaches private piano, voice, and ukulele lessons (both in studio and on Skype), as well as offers group classes and unique studio projects. Regina has also volunteered her services teaching general music to a local preschool. Additionally, she is an author of children's song-story books, geared at assisting families to be and stay connected during difficult times. You can learn more about her books at:
Regina has taught music since 2004, played piano since the age of 8, and started singing as early as she can remember. Awarded music scholarships to 3 colleges and universities, Regina chose Luther College in Decorah, Iowa for her BA in Physical Education and Music. Shortly after graduation, she went on for her MA in Elementary Education. Having successfully completed the New York Vocal Coaching Company Teacher Training course, she offers a well-balanced approach to all aspects of teaching music. The professional education she received from Justin Stoney provides flawless pedagogy that she has found transformative for students of various ages, styles, and individual differences.
Regina has a passion for inspiring children and musicians to dream big, give big, and plan accordingly. Each lesson is catered specifically for each individual. Regina takes great pride in offering the best music education in the best environment in which to study: fun, positive, and passionate.
Instructor (Guitar, Bass, Drums)
James McMann comes to the studio from Omaha, Nebraska. He brings 25 years of music experience to Decorah, both as an educator and performer. James attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, as well as spent 2 years as a music performance major at the University of Nebraska Omaha. At UNO, James played in the jazz lab band as well as studied classical music. He also studied jazz theory from master percussionist, Dr. Steve Raybine.
From 1995 through 2005, James worked as a full time member of Omaha’s Grasshopper Takeover, where he released 5 albums, appeared on VH1, inside the Rolling Stone magazine, and toured the nation, opening for acts like the Goo Goo Dolls, Train, Fall Out Boy, Incubus, 311 and the Marshall Tucker Band. Playing Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 30th birthday party was a personal highlight.
James has had multiple studio sessions with 311’s Nick Hexum and Chad Sexton in Burbank, CA. He has also performed and recorded with many other bands including Two Drag Club, Iris Pattern, Angel and the Backbeats, Cosmic Radio, and Hector Anchondo. James recorded bass for Iam the Pendragon’s full length album “Castle of Lost Hope,” which is currently charting on Christian Rock radio stations world wide.
James has a true passion for teaching. Many of his students have gone on to major in music, becoming professional musicians, teachers, and studio engineers. James is available for guitar, bass, and drum lessons.
